NCN4 starts on the front near Fishguard and Goodwick station and the small Stena Line ferry terminal. It soon heads southeast along some peaceful cycle paths and country lanes with some spectacular views along the coast.
The first major town is touristy St. David's with its magnificent Bishop's Palace.

Further on the route heads south along small country lanes and along some fine sandy beaches after which heads inland again towards Haverfordwest. After this the route turns south and from Johnston follows the disused Grest Western railway line which is now a fine cycle path ending up going through the Westfield Pill Nature Reserve before heading back on the roads over the Cleddau estuary to Pembroke Dock.

Passing Pembroke Castle the route heads towards the coastal town of Tenby where the signs where confusing as they were either pointing in the wrong direction or missing. After this the route heads north then east. Near Pendine the route splits. I took the route to Laugharne and my overnight stop.

The route today was very hilly hence an average speed of only 9mph. With a fully loaded bike I had to walk up some hills, and could not get up much speed downhill as the road surface was not great along with many blind bends.

I have to mention my overnight accommodation in Fishguard: The Ferryboat.
A delightful place to stay with the most amazing breakfast menu.
